From Concept to Technical Prototype
Clothing is more than shape, colour, and aesthetics. Behind every well-designed garment is a complex system in which design, construction, materials, technology, and functionality work together.
This course offers a different way of looking at clothing — as an engineered object that can be studied, analysed, and designed. We will explore why garments are constructed in specific ways, how materials influence their shape and performance, why particular seams and stitches are used, and how a creative idea can be transformed into a real, functional product.

About the Course
Throughout the course, we will explore garments through their construction and production processes: analysing fit, materials, the connection between components, edge finishing, hardware, seams, and stitching.
A key part of the course will be the technical “garment inspection” — learning how to read a garment from the inside out and understand the logic behind every construction and finishing detail.
We will also explore functional design, looking beyond how a garment looks to understand what it is designed to do and what specific problem it is intended to solve.
Alongside this, we will introduce technical documentation and digital prototyping, learning how to translate a creative concept from an initial sketch into a clear, functional construction that can be further developed and eventually taken into production.

Conclusion
By the end of the course, you will learn to look at clothing from several perspectives — as a designer, pattern maker, and technologist.
The main goal is not simply to create a beautiful garment, but to develop a thoughtful and functional product in which every detail has a purpose, and where aesthetics emerge from intelligent construction and technology.

From an idea — to a system.
From a system — to a garment.
